MEET THE TEAM

Based on the particular requirements of each project we assemble a team of specialists from our vast network of experts and partners from all over the world. Currently more than 50 professionals work with us on a permanent or intermittent basis as advisors, analysts, auditors or trainers. The project teams are supported and often led by our multi-disciplinary in-house staff, who are responsible for the coordination of the assignments and serve as direct contact persons for our clients.

Moritz Lörcher
Managing Director

Moritz Lörcher is a Managing Director of Projekt-Consult GmbH and has been with the company since 2014. He holds a German-Spanish double Diploma (Dipl.) in International Economics. Upon graduating he embarked on a career in development cooperation with a focus on resource policy. Over the last ten years Moritz has participated as an expert and manager in a wide range of projects, studies and evaluations in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa.

Johanna Carstens
Chief Operating Officer

Johanna Carstens is the Chief Operating Officer of Projekt-Consult and has been with the company since 2009. She holds a Master’s (M.Sc.) in Environment and Development from the UK, and previously studied in Germany. She has experience as a senior expert, team leader and trainer for responsible ASM and mineral supply chains. Johanna is native in German, fluent in English and French and has a working knowledge of Swahili.

Thomas Hentschel
Senior Advisor

Thomas Hentschel is a Senior Advisor at Projekt-Consult and has been with the company since 1988, serving as Managing Director from 2014 to 2025. Over more than 35 years, he has managed complex international projects in mining, trade, and responsible mining across more than 30 countries. He served as Global Programme Manager of the Swiss Better Gold Initiative (SBGI), based in Colombia, and is internationally recognised as a leading expert on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). He is fluent in German, English, and Spanish.

Dr. Michael Priester
Senior Advisor

Dr. Michael Priester is a Senior Advisor at Projekt-Consult. A mining engineer by profession, he has worked with miners and mining communities in over 40 countries and served as a director of the company’s mining department for more than 20 years. His expertise spans the full breadth of ASM topics — from child labour and policy development to environmental management, training, and supply chain governance. He has contributed to numerous research-led advisory projects on mineral policies and has published widely in the field. He is fluent in German, English, and Spanish.

Dr. Diderot Nguepjouo
Senior Consultant for Mining and Environment

Dr. Diderot Nguepjouo is a Senior Consultant in mining and environment at Projekt-Consult. He holds a PhD in Geosciences from Germany and previously studied in Cameroon. Drawing on over 20 years of experience in academia and the extractive industries across Africa, his work focuses on environmental monitoring and management, participatory mapping, remote sensing, land use and land cover change, ASM, and community empowerment. He is fluent in English, German, and French, and has a working knowledge of Swahili and various African languages.

Dr. Aissa Rechlin
Senior Consultant for Responsible Mining & Circular Economy

Dr. Aissa Rechlin is a Senior Consultant at Projekt-Consult, specialising in responsible mining and resource conservation with a strong background in geosciences. Over the past ten years, she has gained extensive experience in international cooperation, circular economy, and responsible mining practices. She has successfully led projects for the EU as well as for various government bodies, including the Federal Ministry for the Environment, with a focus on sustainability and systemic transformation. She is a native German speaker, fluent in English, and has a working knowledge of Spanish.

Christopher Demel
Senior Consultant for Mining and Mineral Resources

Christopher Demel is a Senior Consultant for mining and mineral resources at Projekt-Consult and also serves as the company’s security backstopper for all projects and studies abroad. He holds a German University Diploma (Dipl.-Min.) in Mineralogy with a focus on economic geology and geochemical-mineralogical analytics. Over the last ten years, working across Australia, Africa, and Asia, he has built expertise in ASM, mineral exploration, GIS and geo-data management, mining sector reforms and investment promotion. He is fluent in German and English and has a working knowledge of French.

Jennifer Rangel-Beul
Consultant for Responsible Sourcing and Environment

Jennifer Rangel-Beul is a Consultant for Responsible Sourcing and Environment at Projekt-Consult, with a focus on sustainable mineral supply chains. She holds a Master’s (M.Sc.) in Physical Geography and Environmental History from Germany, and previously studied in the United States and South Africa. Her project experience spans Latin America and Southern Africa, and her expertise covers ESG risk analysis, copper supply chains, international resource policies, and climate change and decarbonisation along raw material value chains. She is a native English and Spanish speaker and fluent in German.

Víctor Andrés Garzón Vergara
Consultant for Mineral Economics and Resource Governance

Víctor Andrés Garzón Vergara is a Consultant for Mineral Economics and Resource Governance at Projekt-Consult. He holds a Master’s (M.Sc.) in Metallurgy, a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Mining and Metallurgy Engineering, and a diploma in management. Victor brings over 12 years of experience in the extractive sector to Projekt-Consult, both in the mining industry and in development cooperation, with a focus on Latin America - including mine planning, production, R&D engineering. Overall, his expertise covers commodity markets, mining taxation and transparency, and good governance in the extractive sector. He is a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English and German.

Wilhelm Schink
Consultant for Critical Raw Material Value Chains

Wilhelm Schink is a Consultant for Critical Raw Material Value Chains at Projekt-Consult. He holds a Master’s (M.Sc.) in Economic Geology and a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Geosciences. With more than ten years of experience as a researcher, technical advisor, and project manager - primarily in East Africa - he specialises in critical raw materials and supply chains, ASM, due diligence and mineral traceability, commodity markets, and policy advisory. He is a native German speaker, fluent in English, and has a working knowledge of French.

Johanne Hobel
Consultant for Raw Material Policy & Diplomacy

Johanne Hobel is a Consultant for Raw Material Policy and Diplomacy at Projekt-Consult, focusing on strategic and legal mining sector reforms and intersectional justice. She holds a Master’s (M.Sc.) in International Governance and Diplomacy from Sciences Po Paris, specialising in energy, environment, and critical raw materials. Before joining Projekt-Consult, she gained three years of experience with international organisations including the UN Environment Programme, GIZ’s Raw Materials Initiative, and the UN Expert Group on Resource Management. She is a native German speaker and fluent in English and French.

Fabian Rodrigues de Matos
Administrative Coordinator

Fabian Rodrigues de Matos is an Administrative Coordinator at Projekt-Consult. He supports the in-house team by ensuring that all projects comply with the company’s quality management system, certified according to ISO 9001. Before joining Projekt-Consult, he worked as a freelance interpreter and translator, and holds a Master’s (M.A.) in Romanian Linguistics from Germany. He is a native German and Portuguese speaker, fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, and has a working knowledge of French.

Elke Pohl
Administrative Coordinator

Elke Pohl is an Administrative Coordinator at Projekt-Consult, with extensive experience in international project administration and proposal management. She has been part of the GFA Group since 2011, previously working in the Governance Department of GFA Consulting Group in Hamburg, and brings additional experience in GIZ , KfW, SDC and EU project administration. She holds a degree in applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies (Dipl.-Übers.), and earlier in her career worked as a technical translator. She is fluent in German, English and Spanish.

Deolene Neto-Lüneburg
Recruitment

Deolene Neto-Lüneburg is a Recruiter at Projekt-Consult, bringing experience from operational and project management roles in airport and logistics in Madrid, as well as in field positions with the UN and OSCE Missions in post-conflict municipalities in Kosovo. Deolene maintains an active global network of institutional and private sector contacts, drawing on over six years at GFA Consulting Group. She holds a Bachelor's degree in History from Portugal and is a native Portuguese speaker, fluent in English and Spanish, with working knowledge of German.

Flora Nasila
Working Student

Flora Nasila is a Working Student at Projekt-Consult. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree (MSc.) in Natural Resource Management in Germany and holds a Bachelor’s degree (BSc.) in Geology from Kenya. She has over 7 years of experience in the extractives sector, working in mineral exploration and large-scale surface mining in Kenya. Her professional background spans mineral exploration, mine geology, tailings storage facility management, mine safety, aerial surveying, GIS and geo-data management and environmental management in mining. She is fluent in Swahili and English and has an intermediate knowledge of German.

Nicolas A. Eslava
Responsible Mining Expert

Nicolas is a Responsible Mining Expert and the Director of Afai Consulting BV where he has worked for a variety of international donors as well as mining and trading companies, minerals and metals users, investors and insurers. His work has covered topics including mineral supply chain mapping and characterisations, specifically Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining, OECD Guidance and IFC Performance Standards, mineral sourcing strategies for downstream companies, design of ASM formalisation and integration strategies, and training in human rights due diligence.

Dr. Heike Schulze
Responsible Sourcing Expert

Heike Schulze is the Senior Responsible Sourcing Expert with a focus on private clients. For more than 20 years she has worked as a manager in the automotive industry, as a consultant for responsible sourcing as well as a professor for supply chain & operations management. Her PhD from London South Bank University was granted for the work on sustainability competences for purchasing professionals.

Dr. Bernd Bräutigam
Geologist

Dr. Bernd Bräutigam holds a degree in geochemistry and a doctorate in geology and has many years of experience in mining, environmental impact assessment, project management and technical controlling, both nationally and internationally. As part of the team responsible for drafting new mining laws in Ukraine and Uzbekistan, he undertook preparatory work relating to the mining and post-mining of mineral resources, as well as environmental and sustainable use issues. He has managed and collaborated on numerous water and environmental projects in Germany, as well as similar projects in Russia and Georgia. He is fluent in Russian and English.

Gabriela Urquidi
ASM Expert

Gabriela Urquidi is an Associate Expert at Projekt-Consult. She holds a degree in Environmental Engineering with postgraduate training in project management, mining and environmental governance. Her expertise focuses on responsible ASM and environmental management in the artisanal gold sector, with more than ten years of experience in Bolivia and the wider Latin American region. From 2017 to 2023, she served as Operations Coordinator of the Swiss Better Gold Initiative in Bolivia, leading technical support processes and institutional strengthening in the ASM sector. Since 2023, she has been part of the planetGOLD Bolivia project, contributing to mercury reduction efforts under the Minamata Convention and promoting interinstitutional dialogue in the sector.

Håkan Tarras-Wahlberg
ASM & Mining Policy Expert

Håkan Tarras-Wahlberg is an Associate Expert at Projekt-Consult and currently serves as Team Leader of the planetGOLD Bolivia project. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Geology, an MPhil and PhD in Geography, and an LLM in Mining Policy and Law. His expertise covers environmental and social issues in the mining sector, including indigenous rights, climate change, water management, and extractive sector policy and taxation. He has led and contributed to projects funded by multilateral and bilateral agencies across Asia, Europe, Latin America, Melanesia, and Africa.

Jannick Saegert
Mining Sector Expert

Jannick Saegert is an Associate Expert at Projekt-Consult. He is an economist with more than 15 years of experience in responsible mining, mineral supply chains, and natural resource governance. He has worked with governments, development cooperation (GIZ), civil society, and the private sector across Africa, Latin America, and China, including extensive engagement with Chinese companies and government institutions on responsible outbound mining investment and due diligence guidelines.
