Strategic Dialogue on Sustainable Raw Materials for Europe (STRADE)

Global
EU Horizon 2020, 2015 - 2018

Together with a group of European and South African research institutions, Projekt-Consult is implementing the Strategic Dialogue on Sustainable Raw Materials for Europe (STRADE). The idea for STRADE was born in the wake of supply security concerns for critical raw materials in Europe. As the focus of these concerns has shifted to price stability and environmental and social responsibility of the raw material supply, STRADE’s research and recommendations are a timely contribution to the mineral raw material supply debate. STRADE addresses the long-term security and sustainability of the European raw material supply from European and non-European countries. Using a dialogue-based approach, the project brings together governments, industry, and civil society from the EU and raw material exporting countries to deliver policy recommendations for an innovative European strategy on future EU mineral raw material supplies. The project holds environmental and social sustainability as its foundation in its approach to augmenting the security of the European Union mineral raw material supply and enhancing competitiveness of the EU mining industry. The project brings together research, practical experience, legislation, best practice technologies, and know-how in the following areas:

  • Strengthening the European raw-materials sector
  • A European cooperation strategy with resource-rich countries
  • Internationally sustainable raw-material production & supply
