Development of a Mauritanian Mining Strategy
Based on the strategic axes of the African Mining Vision, a multi-disciplinary team of experts from Projekt-Consult has developed a comprehensive conceptual report and operation plan for the development of national mining strategy. The analysis and the strategic process was planned in close cooperation with the Mauritanian Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines and aligned with the country’s development framework (SCAPP 2016-2030). An operation plan which covers the period 2018/2019 specifies and prioritizes activities, relevant for the development of the mining sector. It considers the geological potential, governance and mineral economics, fiscal aspects, legal and regulatory framework, environment and work safety, and institutional capacity building. Also aspects of artisanal gold mining, its role of the mining sector, and its formalization were considered comprehensively.
